On Dewey Transformation Of Value Philosophy

Philosophy had faced severe difficulties and challenges in19th, natural sciences and positivism, empiricism and sensationalism cooperated in order to kill philosophy. With the quick development of natural science, the legitimacy in the modern philosophy in the human society culture encountered the most serious challenge. In order to make philosophy out of the crisis caused due to the rapid rise of science, to change the philosophy itself powerless position in human society, philosophy must be thorough and meticulous to understand study science and would have to change themselves. Dewey argues that, if we want to make philosophy out of the crisis, we must give up the against attitude between philosophy and natural science, we must realize the relationship between philosophy and natural science is not competition but beneficial partnership. In Dewey’s view, a careful in-depth understanding of science is the key to reform philosophy. Philosophy and Science confrontation would had no help to weasel out of the predicament, but it will accelerate the decline of philosophy itself, admitted the success of natural science and to understand the science is necessary.Dewey keen to discover a dilemma of American Philosophical:on one hand philosophers are trying to show that the subtle differences between the various philosophical concepts; On the other hand, the general public have urgent needs of answer of philosopher of what valuable sense philosophy can provide to people’s real life. Dewey pointed out that the emergence of this dilemma caused by a different understanding of the nature of philosophy. Not only the professional philosopher in United States, but also traditional philosophy held such a view:the primary objective of philosophy is to obtain knowledge about the existence itself witch scientific knowledge must base on it. However, the general public thinks that philosophy should be concerned about our real social life, pay attention to our value evaluation criteria, concerned about those things outside our common moral, and these are ignored or intentionally avoided by philosophers in the United States. If the generally philosophical concerns run counter to the public concern, philosophy would gradually lose the trust of the public, so the philosophy must be transformed to solve this dilemma.The nature of transformation of the philosophy of value by Dewey is to bring philosophy from a theory outside human society to a application tool of human social. Study of Dewey philosophy in contemporary China has great important. First of all, the re-examine of philosophy of John Dewey is conducive to a more comprehensive and profound understanding of Marxist philosophy in China; Secondly, the re-examine the philosophy of John Dewey is conducive to a better understanding of traditional Chinese culture; Finally, the re-examine of philosophy of John Dewey will contribute to the harmonious society building in China. This paper begins with the difficulties that traditional philosophy face in the19th century, the author than analyze the relationship between Dewey and philosophical value steering, than Show Dewey’s solution to philosophical dilemmas, and three major transformation of Dewey on the philosophy of value, and finally the theoretical impact of Dewey’s philosophy of value.
