With the New Century’s Military Novels of as research object, and with theme,character, narrative perspective and narrative strategy as research priorities, thisthesis analyses new features of military novels of the new century and summarizesits achievements and flaws.Since the new century, based on the liberally political context of thePost-Revolution Times, the creatively writing freedom of the Individualized WritingTimes and the rapid developments of our era, rich materials arisen from new militaryreforms have laid a solid foundation for the writing of the new century’s militarynovels. Firstly, senior military writers, junior military writers and female militarywriters focused on the history of the PLA’s construction and development after thefoundation of the PRC, the new changes from military reforms since new century andmilitary life of soldiers. Secondly, military writers examined contributions andmistakes of our army with attitudes of looking equally and overlooking, highlightedmotion and strength of military life with scene description, and shaped vividcharacters with daily narrations, seeing through different souls of soldiers withpsychological description. Finally, military writers have successfully shaped soldiers’images who struggle to reform, break through surrounds tenaciously, pursuehappiness and lose their directions. They have also written many military novels withthemes of The Problem of Our Army and Difficult Military Reform, Dilemma andTranscendence, Family life and Emotional Storm and Temper and Glory. What is more,by breaking through former military novels’ subjects and perspectives, they carriedforward the strong sense of crisis for military novels in the end of the20th century,featured marriage and love life of soldiers and readjusted daily narrations, to someextent, with push ahead with the development of contemporary military novels’narrative strategies. However, there exist obvious problems such as film abuse andover-popularization, thus lacking exploration of literary forms and narrativestrategies.
