The purpose of this paper is to clarify the bias of Max Weber’s statement about Confucianism ethics and the unilateral problem of methodology. In brief introduction to the historical background and origin of Weber’s economic ethics theory and the conclusion of Confucianism ethics, the paper reflects the problems of Weber’s Confucianism theory on literature and interpretation firstly, and discusses the situation that Weber finished his study of Confucian ethics without understanding Chinese and lack of information, therefore, the interpretation that he did towards Confucianism ethics exists improper points. Then, the article further reflects problems of Weber’s theory of Confucianism on method and intention. It discusses the unilateral problem on methodology, and the dislocation of the comparable types. It points out that Weber’s analysis of Chinese society based on western society, and because of the position of western centralism, he produced serious errors on judgments of the ethics of Confucianism. Furthermore, the article also proves the thought that Puritan ethic is emerging and developing capitalism with the negative examples of Weber’s Confucian ethics, and it largely related to his ethnicity. Finally, in order to clarify the response of Chinese academic circles towards Weber’s theory of Confucianism, and make a supplement and sublimation of the previous statement of the paper, the article also has the analysis and evaluation towards Yu Yingshi’s description on Weber’s theory of Confucianism.
