| The Kai Yuan and the early stage of Tian Bao years witness the prosperity of Tang Dynasty. During these two periods of time, the empire is marked by booming national power, well-implemented government orders, harmonious human relations, and increased products and population. Being in such an era, Li Bai’s mind undergoes a chain of alterations. Spending his childhood in Sichuan Province, Li Bai is fascinated with self-cultivation and dreamed of being a gallant driving out the rascals and protecting the people. After departing from Sichuan, he titles himself a swordsman and thirsts for gaining reputation by associating with those elitists. Later on, he visits some officials of An Lu and surrounding Chang’an Country attempting at securing a position and in the meantime he occasionally lives a secluded life or sought for the immortals and taoists. His evolution of mind in the course of Kai Yuan years mirrors his positive socialized attitudes towards life and highlights his unrestrained and open spirit.The thriving and vigorous society of Kai Yuan time backdrops the progress of Li Bai’mind and facilitates the scholars’unique spirit of this period. Among the scholars, some of whom are successors of the open-mindedness of reputed scholars in the Six Dynasties. Some win recognition from the emperor for their literary genius. Some, with elevated spirits, conduct as gallants yearning for making contributions in army. Some are awarded good fames for the sake of the reclusive lifestyle admired by the emperor. Li Bai has all those experiences and his distinctive personality makes him a prototype of the scholar in the prosperous Tang Dynasty.At last, this paper is advanced with a further exploration on Li Bai’s life and some issues concerning his poetries. |
