Along with the progress of the modern society, the communication in the fieldsof economy and culture between different nations and countries is becomingincreasingly frequent, which makes Chinese absorb some vocabulary from the othernations to enrich and improve itself. The introduction and absorption of foreign wordsare the products during the process of communication and integration betweendifferent languages. With the popularity of English throughout the world, Englishloanwords also count the largest proportion in all the loanwords of Modern andContemporary Chinese. They are related to many aspects and areas of the social life.Considering the wide range of etymologies of loanwords, it’ll be difficult to studythem individually. Besides, English loanwords are more representative. As a result,this paper only studies this area. The analysis of English loanwords in Modern andContemporary Chinese, not only has a significant academic value for the study ofChinese Linguistics, but also plays a crucial role in the further understanding of theinteraction between the Chinese and western cultures. In Chinese internationaleducation, there are also a certain number of English loanwords. As an important partof modern and contemporary Chinese, they share mutual influence and commondevelopment with Chinese. The existence and development of English loanwords notonly is helpful to the Chinese learning of foreign students, but also plays a positiverole in the mutual promotion and development of Chinese and the foreign cultures.Apart from the introduction and conclusion, this paper is divided into five parts:the first chapter is a general statement about the loanwords in Chinese and its studyhistory; the second chapter introduces the basic classification and functions ofEnglish loanwords; the third chapter discusses the transform of English loanwordsfrom four aspects including phonetics, semantics, etc. And the fourth chapter studiesthe affect of English loanwords to Chinese; in the last chapter, through the list ofEnglish loanwords in HSK syllabus, the author points out the guiding significance ofEnglish loanwords studies to Chinese international education.This paper takes the methods of summarization and analysis to reveal the interaction between English loanwords and Chinese in all aspects. It’s the product ofusing theoretical linguistic knowledge, such as lexical semantics and contrastivelinguistics. The paper is expected to provide some theoretical guidance for theteaching practice of Chinese international education, and to have some function inChinese vocabulary teaching.
