As the20thMaster of Namo Faction, Liu Mingrui is an very influential inneralchemist in modern Taoism history. The study of Liu Mingrui’s inner alchemicalideas could not only help to better understand the Taoism inner alchemical historydevelopment, but also help to promote the study of modern history of Taoismthoughts and the history of inner alchemy. Liu Mingrui’s inner alchemical ideasprovide us plenty of ideas and methods for health maintenance. Since the study forLiu’s inner alchemy was not decent, this thesis illustrates Liu’s ideas more profoundand comprehensive. The whole thesis includes the introduction and5chapters.In the introduction part, the author provided the research significance first, thendid a comprehensive analysis of current research status of Liu’s ideas, at last theresearch innovation, research methods, and the thesis structure were given.In chapter1, the author investigated Liu’s life, academic background, andmainly masterpieces by document literature " the3Panchanzi Tao Books" from "theSupplement for Collected Taoist Scriptures" Chapter23.In Chapter2, while "the basic steps of inner alchemy practice" and the idea of"three religions in one" have been discussed, the author mainly provided the source ofLiu’s inner alchemy ideas. The basic Taoist inner alchemy steps are: build the basics,transmit the spirit to Qi, transmit Qi to Shen, transmit Shen back to Xu, and finnallydestroy Xu. Consequently, Liu’s ideas derived from "three religions in one" and"become immortal".In Chapter3, the author discussed Liu’s Taoist inner alchemy ideas in details.There are9steps in Liu’s inner alchemy. In this chapter, the Taoist concepts (like:Tao,Qi, Shen, Spirit, etc.) have been explained specifically while the author also describedthe inner alchemy practice methods.In Chapter4, the author comprehensively explained Liu’s idea "three religion inone". Liu insisted that the three religions are all from only one origin, that is to saythey are all from Wuji. This was to explain "three religions in one" by usingconfucianism theory, which was seldom to see in Taoist history. Liu believed that thedifference between three religions were from the people.In chapter5, the author made the Liu’s inner alchemy characteristics,contribution and influence clear. Liu used pictures and papers to illustrate the Taoist inner alchemy, used the "Journey to the West" to prove the Taoist inner alchemy. Wecan see that Zhao Bichen’s ideas are the inheritance and development of his teacherLiu Mingrui.
