Five Poppy Medicinal Plant Volatile Oil Extraction, Identification And Antioxidant, Antibacterial Activity

Tne plants from Papaveraceae have been used as medicines for a long time in China. Papaveraceae includes three important sub-families:Papaveroideae, Hy-pecoideae and Fumarioideae. Currently more research on Papaveracea plants are its composition aspects. The plants are rich in alkaloids (isoquinoline alkaloids), volatile oil and furans. It also founds that less research has been done on the volatile oil from Papaveracea plants. This paper focuses on the five kinds of Papaveracea medicinal plants and includes five parts.The first part summarizes an overview progress in volatile oil from plants. The secand part main studies on overview progress of Papaveracea plants, the chemical constituents of the Papaveracea. The third part focuses on the chemical ingredient of the volatile oils from Papaveracea plants.The fourth part focuses on the antioxidant strength of the volatile oils from Papaveracea. The fifth part is about the antibacterial strength of the volatile oils from Papaveracea. Details are as follows.The volatile oils from Papaveracea plants are extracted by steam distillation, and GC-MS was used to study its constituents.Using UV spectrophotometry, the antioxidant strength of the volatile oils from Papaveracea plants can be detected. Experiment measures scavenging free radicals and reduces the ability of the three (DPPH radicals, hydroxyl radicals, superoxide anion radicals) and uses the positive control:2,6-ditertbutyl-4-methylphenol (BHT) as comparison sample. The results show that the volatile oil used to clear three kinds of free radicals and to reduce power belongs to a concentration-dependent manner, and it can be a good free radical scavenging, indicating five kinds of Papaveracea plants volatile oil have certain antioxidant ability in vitro.Using agar diffusion method and tubes serial dilution method, the ability of anti-fungal and anti-bacterial was tested in five kinds of volatile oils from Papaveracea plants. Experiment select common bacteria:Escherichia coli, P.aeruginosa, Staphyloccocus aureus, Rhizopus, Aspergillus flavus and Aspergullus niiger as experimental strain species. Proved by experiments, these five kinds of Papaveracea plants volatile oils have certain anti-bacterial or anti-fungal effect in vitro. Except the volatile oil from Macleaya microcarpa, the others have the ability of anti-bacterial.The result means that these five kinds of volatile oils have the potential ability to exploit.
