Motor neuron disease (MND) is a chronic progressive neurodegenerative diseasethat characterized by a series of prominent degeneration of upper motor neuronand lower motor neuron. The etiology and pathogenesis is not clear so far.Westernmedicine is lack of effective treatment and drugs as a result.However,it effectssignificantly on clinical symptom improvement by TCM treatment based onsyndrome.Professor Wang Jian is the provincial famous doctor. He has accumulatedrich experience in motor neuron disease treatment through studying onTraditional Chinese Medicine and adopting valuable theory of The ancient andmodern physicians in the process of years of teaching, scientific research andmedical practice.According to major clinical manifestation which are muscleatrophy, muscle weakness, motor dysfunction,etc. Professor Wang Jian classifiesMND as "flaccidity syndrome "category. On the basis of the main physiologicalfunction and the pathological features of the spleen and the stomach as wellas the close relationship between the spleen and the other fourzang-organs,Professor Wang Jian puts forward the pathogenesis of this diseasewhich is the deficiency of five zang-organs,essence,body fluid, qi and bloodcausing the muscle and tendons dystrophy.At the same time,he points out thatthe deficiency of the spleen and the stomach is the key of the thepathogenesis.Therefore,in the treatment,Professor Wang Jian lays stress onrecovering the function of spleen and stomach to tonifying heart, lung, liver,kidney four zang-organs.Though treatment based on syndrome,combined treatmentwith acupuncture and drugs, TCM’s advantage and unique feature are displayed.Asa result, symptoms can be improved, the progression of the disease can bedelayed, pain in patients with motor neuron disease can be reduced.
