The acquisition and research on the mutants related to flower development play an important role in understanding the function and interaction of genes in reproductive process, especially in floral development. The development of rice floral organ directly affects the yield and quality of rice and it is the model for studying development of monocotyledon in Molecular Biology. Recently, there have been many progresses in genes regulating the development of rice floret. Many genes about this process have been cloned by mutants. So that, the study on molecular mechanism of monocotyledon floral organs development using rice flower mutants becomes one of the focuses in plant molecular genetics. We obtained a floral organ mutant from indica, its palea and lemma become narrower and turn like crescent. The palea and lemma can’t enclose the stamens and pistil which are dried and degenerate. Genetic analysis and allelism test showed the penotype of the mutant is controlled by a recessive gene. We fine mapped this gene and predicted it as a zinc-finger protein by map-based cloning, and we provisionally named it as OSZFP3. To fine map OSZFP3gene, one F2population was constructed from a cross between the OSZFP3and an japonica variety Nipponbare. There were928OSZFP3in the F2population. Preliminary mapping of OSZFP3showed that it is linked to two SSR markers, including RM3748and RM3140, on the short arm of chromosome1. By developing of some new markers,OSZFP3was finally mapped between two markers, LW5-8and LW13-8, about36kb on genome. The fine mapping of OSZFP3lays a good foundation for further studying of molecular mechanisms in regulation of rice floral organ development.
