In recent years, the total amount of the non-renewable energy, including oil, natural gas, coal and so on, has been reduced year by year, which is due to the uncontrolled use of human. At any time, a global energy crisis could explode. Fortunately, we have been aware of the plight. Around the world, many countries have been always exploring the renewable energy on the basis of controlling the energy consumption. For a while, much new energy, such as wind energy, tidal energy, nuclear energy and so on, has emerged and has a rapid development. Among them, the wind energy, being a huge-reservation and non-polluting renewable energy, has been rapidly promoted to be used around the world. There is no doubt that the wind energy has become one of the most promising new energy sources.Firstly, a brief introduction about the operation mechanism of the dual-rotor permanent magnet wind generator is presented, and the paper also discusses the basis when choosing the permanent magnet materials. After that, the design of the dual-rotor permanent magnet wind generator about it’s electromagnetic and structure is proposed, which is referred to design of the ordinary permanent magnet wind generator. Then the mathematical model of the dual-rotor permanent magnet wind generator is deduced. The paper also details the maximum power point tracking control strategy, and analysis the strategy about the dual-rotor permanent magnet wind generator, which is working below the rated wind speed, based on the characteristics of the dual-rotor permanent magnet wind generator. There are three methods of the maximum power point tracking control strategy being proposed, analyzed and compared.Simulation models of the maximum power point tracking control strategy based on the optimal tip speed ratio and the optimal torque controlling are built in MATLAB/simulink software, and the simulation results show that the validity of the maximum power point tracking strategy is well.
