In recent years, there were more dams of hundred meters above in china, so its mode of energy dissipation attracted everyone’s attention gradually. The united dissipation system composed of flaring gate pier, stepped spillway and stilling pool possesses advantage of both flaring gate pier and stepped spillway, reaching a very good energy dissipation effect. Currently, this energy dissipation works can be applied to many engineering facilities in china.At present, the wide tail pier step computation integration of the re-search of two phase flow of water is mainly is based on model test is given priority to, also be a small amount of prototype observation and numerical simulation to the less. Broad tail pier step integration of numerical simula-tion, the simulation object scope big, complicated shape and complicated boundary condition, the grid division is strict; it takes a lot of energy. But with the development of computer technology, the numerical simulation study of broad tail pier energy dissipation work has become a new trend, the combination of physical model test research and numerical simulation method is a more ideal method.Based on the previous studies and combined the experiments of ahai hydropower station in Yunnan with numerical simulation, the flow hydraulic characteristics of the united system were studied in this paper. The main contents of the studies and achievements are as followed:(1)Experimental study:The flow characteristics, pressure and vector of Y-shaped flaring gate piers, stepped spillway and stilling pool in cases of difficult discharge were compared and analyzed.(2) Using VOF method with water two phase flow model of three-dimensional Realize turbulent flow, near the water surface using geometric reconstruction format interpolation, speed and pressure coupling PISO algorithm, using non-constant stable solu-tions of approximation algorithm of steady flow, the scope of im- personation from the upstream Stilling basin of reservoir to export.(3) Comparative analysis of the simulation results with experimental and numerical, hydraulics related theoretical knowledge as the basis, sum-marizes the change law of flaring gate pier and stepped spillway and flow pattern, pressure and flow rate characteristics of stilling pool of water hy-draulic elements...
