Tobacco detrasher is a special device which is used to eliminate the impurity from the raw tobacco production line.It is an automated detection system relating to electricity, optics, mechanics and electrical engineering.Tobacco detrasher has high requirements of real-time and accuracy so that the platform of digital image processing must have the ability to support complex algorithms and process massive high-speed data. This paper conducted hardware and software designs for a tobacco detrasher used in cigarette factory.Firstly, this paper completed the overall design of image processing system, mainly including two parts of hardware and software design.This paper completed the hardware design of image processing paltform in tobacco detrasher, mainly including designs of the minimum system, the CCD camera acquisition circuit, the external memory circuit and the data communication circuit. Specifically including designs of the power circuit, the clock circuit, the FPGA configuration circuit and the reset circuit; designs of CameraLink interface circuit and signal conversion board; designs of FPGA-FLASH interface circuit, FPGA-SSRAM interface circuit and FPGA-SDRAM interface circuit; designs of RS232interface circuit, ethernet interface circuit and FPGA-DSP communication interface circuit.This paper researched the recognition algorithm of impurity from the raw tobacco and its implementation in FPGA, specifically including analysis of algorithm demand, image preprocessing, binarization algorithm of removing impurity, sub-algorithm module implementation in FPGA, design of adaptive IP core, SOPC system building and development of NIOS soft-core programs. The NIOS programs mainly include image acquisition, image binarization and the driver and communication programs of ethernet.Finally, this paper conducted on-site joint debugging of hardware devices and software programs. Including joint debugging of FPGA-DSP image communication interface(EMIFA). This paper also analyzed and summarized the effect of removing impurity in the actual production line with the tobacco detrasher.
