Currently in the multi-axis CNC machining of curved surfaces impeller is a kind of mechanical parts, which is in the production and processing widely available and has obvious geometrical features. Recently, with the development of design theories, the shape of working face on the impeller-type part was increasingly complicated, the process was more complex, the manufacturing costs were also higher. Moreover, it was more difficult to ensure the precision of the vanes. With the use of modern CAD/CAM technology this paper analyzed the problems at the scene and researched the shape characteristics of the impeller from the viewpoint of processing. With the use of UG/CAM five-axis programming system a program of impeller design and CNC machining was also proposed, finally the three-dimensional modeling and CNC machining simulation of impeller can be completed on the computer. With the method offered by the paper, high-quality impellers can be processed fast and concisely based on the requirements of designers and programmers. In the meantime, it provides design thought and design method for sculpt and numerical control machining of complex products and offers good solution for the design and process of impellers of other types for reference through sculpt and NC machining of impellers.
