The associated pyrite of different deposits have different floatability. The relationship ofthe type of the deposit and floatability will need further gone into.The research object of thepaper are selected from three different deposits of associated pyrite.They are Dachang type,Wushan type, Fankou type.The study aimed at the physical properties and floatability of thethree kinds of associated pyrite. Besides, the floatability difference of the pyrite afteractivated by different activator under conditions of high alkaline and high calcium.The sulphur-iron ratio value and crystal lattice constant and the semiconductor type ofthree different types of pyrite were studied in detail. The results showed that the associatedpyrite of Dachang and Fankou type were p-type semiconductor, Wushan was n-typesemiconductor. The sulphur-iron ratio of three kinds of pyrite were ordered from larger tolittle as Dachang type>Fankou type>Wushan type. The crystal lattice were ordered fromlarger to little as Dachang type>Wushan type>Fankou type. Research showed the floatabilityand flotation rate of the pyrite related to the sulphur-iron ratio value and the semiconductortype when using xanthate in the natural pH,and the effect of the semiconductor type was moresignificant. The difficulty of pyrite depressed were mainly influenced by the crystal latticeconstant. The bigger is the crystal lattice constant of pyrite, the easier suppressed. In activatorsystem,the floatability of the Fankou type pyrite with smaller crystal lattice constant was best.The suppression mechanism in inhibitor system and the activation mechanism inactivator system of pyrites were studied by infrared spectroscopy,flotation solutionchemistry,thermodynamics,electrochemical impedance analysis.Researches show in limesystem,the primary reason of pyrite can be suppressed was the hydrophobic ions orcompounds in pyrite surface,such as Ca(OH)2、Fe(OH)2、Fe(OH)3.Simultaneously,in the slurryenvironment of high OH-and high Ca(OH)2,a large amount of Ca(OH)2wraped up pyrite andlead to pyrite hydrophilic and difficult to go up.In activator system,activator can consumeOH-and lower the pH of the pulp,eliminate the hydrophilic coating of the pyrite surfacecoaused by Ca(OH)2,lessen the concentration of Ca(OH)2and activate pyrite.Finally,thermodynamic relation of AnBmtype activator activating pyrite depressed by limewas x-y>171.98m and z-ny-mw<237.129mn.In the actual ore flotation experiments of pyrite,NH4HCO3and Al2(SO4)3combinated asactivator was used to activate the pyrite suppressed by lime.The laboratory smallclosed-circuit experiment can get pyrite concentrate with grade38.76%,recovery89.67%.
