The land is the material basis of human survival and development, and the laborof social production, the basic means of agricultural production, is also a foothold inthis country, the development of the national economy cannot be separated from land.The Land Law is a legal system that regulated to land development, utilization,regulation, protection and management activities of the various social relations, it wasconducived to safeguard the interests of land economy, to maintain the social andeconomic order and stabilize in the country’s political landscape.The Federal Republic of Nigeria was a colony of British. Affected by thishistorical factor, the Nigerian government decreed The Land Use Act in1978, the Actinfluenced by the British law to a certain extent. The Act aimed to the nationalizationof land in Nigeria; As a result, there was the system of state land ownership in Nigeria.And the original land system is preserved due to Nigerians respected for customarylaw in Nigeria.According to the Land Use Act and the customary law, this paper simplyintroduced the system of land ownership, the system of land occupancy and thesystem of land transference in the land system of Nigeria, and analyzed and comparedwith the land system of China. The system of land ownership composed of state landownership; the communal land ownership, the family land ownership and individualland ownership in Nigeria. The land occupiers enjoy the rights of occupancy in thefour kinds of land in Nigeria. Under the certain conditions, the land occupiers cantransfer their rights of occupancy.With the development of economy, the government found that the existing landlaw could not solve the increasingly prominent land problem, so there has started anew round of land reform in Nigeria. Therefore, many scholars put forwardsuggestions for the land reform, and the government prepare for the reform in Nigeria.The distinctive economic and social conditions, determines the characteristics of theland system in Nigeria. At the end of this paper, in order to project the characteristicsof the Nigerian land system and get some inspiration from the related land systemthrough the contrast the Nigerian land system with the Chinese one.
