Studying on the evolution of Japanese view of china and its features will be good for graspingJapanese Policy to China and Sino-Japanese relations. this is the main topic of this paper, it consists of foursections. The first section define the meaning of Japanese view of China, then sum up different view ofChina in different times. In the second section, this paper analyze the performance, reasons and effects ofthe evolution of Japanese view of China before and after the Ansei treaties. Japan has diplomatic ties withChina since ancient times, their culture is derived from the same origin, both of them are part of Chineseeuhure community. Before colonialism expand its influence on the East Asia Region, Japan admired,respected and absorbed the culture and ideas of China for quite some time. After Japan assigned Anseitreaties,its view of China became changing gradually, from an admirer to an invader. Before that treaties,Japanese view of china had been shook slightly by Sino-British Opium War, but after that, as Japan openedits doors and new world outlook took shape, a series of changes of view of china took placed. At firstChina was an elder, and then it was a peer as well as Japan, at last, it became a weak person who need thehelp of Japan. By Japanese view of China changing, Japanese Policy to China and Sino-Japanese relationschanged. The analysis on changes, performance and reasons of the Japanese view of China before and afterNixon’s visit to China in1972is the main contents. This event brought about evolution of Japanese view ofChina. Before1972, as a result of the Cold war, both official exchange and non-governmental exchangewere absent. Affected by ideology and media publicity, poverty, backwardness and dictatorship were thekey words of Japanese view of China. After Nixon’s visit to China in1972, the normalization of diplomaticrelations between China and Japan turned out to be true, both official exchange and non-governmental exchange increased quickly, Japanese view of China and Chinese changed a lot, from a RevolutionaryChina to a Reformational China. As the Chinese economy growed rapidly and Japanese economy stalled,Japanese view of China changes with the change of the strength and status of the two countries, Chinathreat theory became to be a new and popular view of China. Corresponding with it, Japan’s policy toChina, as well as the Sino-Japanese relations changed. The forth section of the paper dig out the features ofthe change of Japanese view of China based on the former sections. There are three characteristics: theevolution of world outlook; the evolution of identity; the evolution of Japanese expectation value of China.Summary and analysis are set in the fifth section.
