| Given his reputation as the most learned theology politician, humanist and diplomatistof England in12th, John of Salisbury, his Policraticus and political thought occupy adecisive position in the Western history of political thoughts. The research on John’s politicalthoughts is an important role of understanding the development of political thoughts ofMedieval western European and researching the later political theory.In the first part of this paper, the author introduces the origins of John’s politicalthoughts, analyzing the thoughts in perspective of religious education, political struggle andthe impact received by works of secular politicians.The second part elaborates the main details:the prince,i.e.,the pewer origin,the princeduty,the tyrant and the evaluation criteria of legal status of the prince.The rule of lawemphasizes the necessity and importance in governing the kingdom,which is defined as thedifference of monarch and tyrant. John compared countries at all levels to the correspondingparts of human body, and analyzed the duties of different parts and the relationship betweeneach other, forming a relatively complete theory of national organism.Third part of John’s political thought evaluates John’s political thoughts,which sums upthe realism, rationalism and modern famous political theory principle by analyzing theideological content about John.The above are shining points in John’s politicalthought.However,John also inevitably trapped himself in the limitations of historicalenvironment, as the moral purpose of political thought is obvious.In addition, there is thoughts blank on John’s political research. |
