As the indigenous people of Sipsong-panna in China, Khmupeople’s identity based on their language and interaction with Dai people,who was in the historical dominant position of culture. Ethnicidentification has changed the situation since2008and Khmu peopleobtained a new status: Pulang nationality.However, identity confusion may be brought up by the gamingamong national utterance, identification and social definition. Clear ethicidentity stated on the ID card, on the contrary, resulted in vagueethnicity acknowledgement to local people in life, due to geographicaldistance and cultural unfamiliar. So why should I belong to a unknownethnic group? The Khmu’s cannot understand. With the depending of theeconomy development,"who I am” will becoming a trouble that Khmupeople must face on.
