From Brother To Enemy Roots Analysis Of Deterioration In Sino-Vietnam Relation(1950—1978)

This paper, with the deterioration of Sino-Vietnam relation as the main line, was completed in the base of largely quoted files and documents which were published by China, the United States, former Soviet Union and Vietnam. And it mainly includes two aspects:the confliction on Indochina issues and ideology divisions. After these issues analysis, we will find that the national interests and ideological are the roots of relations deterioration between Sino-Vietnam.Conflicts on Indo-China issues involves four specific issues:the differences on Indo-China truce, differences on peace talks, the divergence in the aid issue, conflicts on Indo-China hegemony. During the Geneva conference, China and Soviet Union persuade North Vietnamese to put forward conditions which were lower and practical. Since the final result failed to achieve the maximum interests of the Vietnamese, the Vietnamese feel resentment to china. And the Geneva Conference covered a shadow on the Vietnamese, and also become a bomb in the China-Vietnam relations. China’s attitude change on peace talk lead to Vietnamese suspected. And the north Vietanmese even thought that the reconciliation between China and the United States was at the expense of Vietnam’s interests, and such behavior betrayed Vietnam. There were large quantity of conflicts and disputes between Soviet Union and China When they assistant Vietnam together. It made things difficult and even embarrassment for North Vietnam. When China admonished or ordered Vietnam to stay away from the Soviet Union, Vietnam even doubted that China’s attempts to control Vietnam, and slowly stand with Soviet Union. Distrust between China and Vietnam increased. Hegemony of Indo-Chinese was the most prominent problem in China and Vietnam conflicts. And it became the last straw, and has also become the second front of the conflicts between Sino-Vietnam.Differences in ideological also was an important factor of deterioration in Sino-Vietnam. Vietnam, hovering in the ideological struggles between Sino-Soviet, were treading on thin ice. Chinese, who insist on when anti-imperialist must be anti-revisionism, required Vietnamese join in they behavior of anti-Soviet. It let neutral Vietnam embarrassed. China toughly criticized Vietnam’s ambiguous attitude, said Vietnam’s stance is not firm. This led to Vietnam’s grudge, and became a could not neglect factor for the deterioration of Sino-Vietnam relationsFrom the above two aspects, five specific issues, we could easily find that the national interests and ideological are the roots of relation deterioration between Sino-Vietnam.
