Science fiction literature describes Not-Yet-Conscious. In the spirit of science, sci-fi literature tries to grasp the nature of world that is in process, and it often contains positive power to change the reality that will arise in one of countless possible futures. In the context of Bloch’s utopian philosophy, this paper tries to integrally grasp the artistic value and functional orientation of New Generation sci-fi literature in China. New Generation sci-fi literature in China has walked away out of a simple theory of popularization of science, they attempt to represent the tension between fantasy and reality, and this effort reflects that the younger generation has their own deep thinking on the reality of life and the meaning of life. Research on the Utopian characteristic and Utopian function of New Generation sci-fi literature can provide reference for our contemporary cultural criticism, and also provide a dimension of reflection on the present social development. The first chapter combs the development of utopianism which contains early utopianism, Thomas Moore and utopian socialism, Bloch’s philosophy of hope, Marcuse’s aesthetic utopia, and so on. Since19th century, utopianism had been criticized a lot for its fantasy, until that Bloch’s utopian philosophy reversed the value of traditional utopianism. He affirmed the value of utopian spirit, and established a Marxism dimension for the practice of utopia. Bloch’s utopian philosophy gives an important enlightenment on the literary studies. The second chapter comprehensively inspects the New Generation sci-fi literature creation, introducing four stages in the development of Chinese science fiction literature, and taking Liu Cixin, Han Song, Wang Jinkang and He Xi as examples. The New Generation sci-fi literature has got new development both in ideology and art, and have obvious characteristics of utopia in learning from the west, which are variously changing, including space utopia, time uitopia, technical utopia, rural utopia and so on. The third chapter stresses on the characteristics of utopia and its unique aesthetic value in the New Generation sci-fi literature. Sci-fi literature is distinctive for its characteristics of utopia. Then, this chapter particularly analyzes the innovation of New Generation sci-fi literature both on utopian imagination and ideas of value in three aspects: the dimensions of time and space and the function orientation. In contrast with the aesthetic characteristics of contemporary Chinese literature, the New Generation sci-fi literature is imaginative, novel and at the forefront. In combination with the reality of China, the fourth chapter analyzes the function of utopia in New Generation sci-fi literature, and then confirms its value both from "hope" and "reality". The "hope" of New Generation sci-fi literature is mainly about that it affirms the ultimate value and identifies the subject value, while the "reality" is that it reflects a lot on society, technology and human nature. In the end, this paper concludes the success and limitation of Chinese sci-fi literature in about one hundred years, and then expects new developments of sci-fi literature both on nationalization and localization. |
