Judith Butler was born in America and she was the descendants of immigrants.Shewas influenced by Jewish ethics when she was young. She was deeply influenced by thespecial life experiences beyond norms, especially the gender norms:Our gender is under theviolent control of power. The minorities who do not meet the gender norms are blocked atthe door of the law. Judith Butler′s performative theory of gender challenges the practice ofsex control. This thoery does not only find the way for people who live boyond the norms, but also guidelines new directions and opens new areas of development for feminist studiesand aesthtic criticism.Judith Butler and her thoery have been widely studied in the West, but in our countrythere are few people study on it,so I try to research it from sorting out the theoretical text tousing it to the easthtical practice. This paper mainly focuses on Judith Butler′s performativetheory of gender and I try to start on the following three aspects:The first part mainly combs the theoretical background and source of Butler′sperformative theory of gender. The second part tries to explore the theoretical essence andmain characteristics of Butler′s performative theory of gender, and the third part mainlyexplores the practical significance of the theory. Butler′s performative theory of gender notonly insists on a kind of political attitude which demands freedom、equality and pluralisticsociety, but also promotes an inclusive and independent lifestyle and choices. Butler undoesgender by making gender trouble, her purpose is not trying to establish another newstandard for their own interests. All she does tells us that we are shrouded by the norms andwe must get rid of it.In fact, the seemingly natural sxistences are unnatural.
