With the deepening of reform and opening up and more frequent foreign exchanges, the introduction of a large number of outstanding foreign literary works to enrich the spiritual life of the Chinese people has become a trend. The author selected the short story of the famous American contemporary writer Anthony Doerr, The Hunter’s Wife, for translation. Based on the indispensable role of text linguistics in literary translation, the author mainly used the cohesion theory-based approach to solve the difficult problems encountered in translating, and also strove to maintain consistency with the original style to maintain the readability and aesthetic enjoyment in the original novel.The paper is divided into five parts. The first part is an introduction, including an overview of the research background, the significance and the structure of the paper. The second part is the task of the this paper, introducing the preparation of the translation, the process and the examination work. The third part is the theoretical basis, describing the the requirements of novel translation and cohesion skills. The fourth part is a case study, including the analysis of the applications of cohesion translation practice skills in The Hunter’s Wife. The fifth part summarizes the whole process of translation practice, the author’s experience and shortcomings.The author put the translation theory into his practice by use of textual cohesion techniques and had a more thorough understanding of Chinese and English language features. He not only accumulated valuable experience of literary translation, but also recognized the inadequacies of his translation capability, which helped him apply for translation job in near future.
