This is a translation project report of Going Out: An Overview of China’sOutward Foreign Direct Investment, a report written by Nargiza Salidjanova, a policyanalyst for economic and trade issue in U.S.-China Economic&Security ReviewCommission. In this report, the author states his thorough, systematic andcomprehensive analysis on China’s outward foreign direct investment. The report iscomposed by four parts: first, the current situation of China’s outward foreign directinvestment; second, the evolution of China’s outbound investment and organizationalbackground; third, the distribution of China ODI by destination and type; third,introduces the role round-tripping plays in China’s ODI; four, the future of Chinesedirect investment and U.S. interests. Founded on abundant facts and figures, the reportis backed by hard evidence.After a thorough study of the source text, the author chose Eugene Nida’sfunctional equivalence theory as the guiding theory of the translation, and adoptedrelevant translation strategies and methods, such as literal translation and freetranslation; amplification and omission; division and combination, to deal with thefeatures in the source text, such as the complexity in sentences in English andflexibility in parts of speech. During this translation project, the author has realizedthe great significance of the functional equivalence theory in guiding translationpractices and for a qualified translator, perseverance in unremitting translationpractices and the spirit to strive for perfections are the musts...
