A Translation Project Report Of City Of Endless Night(Chapter1-chapter5,Part2)

The thesis is a report of translation project. The source text which is extracted from City of Endless Night written by Milo Hastings starts from the first chapter to the second part of the fifth chapter. It shows the author’s ironic attitude towards the utopia as well as the reflective inspection of the real society. There are four subcategories of the report. First, the background of the projection report, which includes the source, meaning and structure about it. Second, the source text, which includes the introduction of the author, the edition of the book, the main content and the analysis of the content. Third, the quality control, which includes the crucial and difficulty problems in the translation progress, the concise description of the translation theory and methods, the utilization of the translation theory and methods and the solution of the problems. Fourth, the summary, which includes the lessons learning from the translation practice, the reflection of translation practice and the problems remain unsolved. The report mainly takes Huang Long’s new explanation theory of "faithfulness, expressiveness, elegance", which stresses the combination of literal translation and free translation.
