The delay of gratification is a sign of mental maturity, being thekind of choice orientation to forego immediate gratification for thesake of more valuable delayed outcomes, and the ability ofself-control shown during the waiting process.The delay ofgratification ability can reflect that the individual can control theirimmediate impulse in the face of various temptation and focus on themore valuable and long-term goal. The delay of gratification is thecore element of the children’s ability of self-control. It is the keycomposition and the important ability of self-control of individual. Italso play a positive role in the individual growth and environmentaladaptation.3to5years old is an important period of self-imposeddelay of gratification ability’s formation.The self-imposed delay of3to5years old children can effectively predict the cognitive and socialability, emotion and individual development in future. Therefore,it hasimportant theoretical and practical significance for the ability ofindividual development and social progress to research self-imposeddelay of children.In this study, through the improvement of the classicexperimental paradigm of MisheIS1D, adopting the situational observation to investigate3to5years old children’s self_imposeddelay of gratification, this research is designed to examine thedevelopment characteristics of children’s self-imposed delay ofgratification time and delay-strategy of122children(3to5years oldchildren in the rural kindergarten of Zibo city, Shandongprovince).Through the statistical analysis of the data, We summerisedthe following conclusions:1. In rural of China,3to5years old children’s self-imposed delay ofgratification has significant age differences,3-5year-old was acritical period of the children’s self-imposed of gratification.2.3to5years old children’s self-imposed delay of gratification has nosignificant differences in gender, only child and not only child andfamily economic level.3.3to5years old children’s self-imposed delay of gratification hassignificant differences between the left-behind children and theun-left-behind children. The delay of gratification of un-left-behindchildren is significantly higher than that of the left-behind children.4. Different3to5children present strong consistency in the using ofdelay-strategy. The delay-strategy level which is used graduallyimprove, as the growth of the children’s age. In this study, the rural3to5years old children mainly use self distracting strategy, speechcontrol strategy has no obvious advantage in the whole period ofearly childhood.
