Taiyuan Wang clan is a noble family in the medieval times. Thestudy on it not only allows us to learn more about Taiyuan Wang clanbut also helps us have a better understanding of the social reality atthat time. The pirmogenitor of Taiyuan Wang clan can date back toPrince Jin. Prince Jin was demoted by King Ling of Zhou to a commonperson because of counseling. Later,his son Zongjing became anofficial. But due to the decline of the Zhou and the tumultuousconditions, Zongjing took refuge and lived in Jinyang. He was adescendant of royalty, so he was called Wang which meant the King.Then he became the pirmogenitor of Taiyuan Wang clan with Wangbeing a surname. The thesis is intended to explore the evolution ofthe two branches in Wei-Jin and the Southern and Northern Dynastiesand the characteirstics of their development.The first part birefly shows the purpose and the significance of thestudy in the thesis. The second part presents the sources of Taiyuan Wang clan. The source of the Wang clan and that of Taiyuan Wangclan are explored respectively. The third part expounds thedevelopment process of Taiyuan Wang clan in Wei-Jin and theSouthern and Northern Dynasties. The fourth part talks about thebranches of Taiyuan Wang clan in Wei-Jin and the Southern andNorthern Dynasties, the deeds of some representatives and thesituations of their habitations. The last part of this thesis Is ananalysis off the characteristics of Taiyuan Wang clan’s development inWei-Jin and the Southern and Northern Dynasties from theperspectives of family economy, marirage, family customary moralstandards,religion, and so on.
