| The mighty Han dynasty is the second peak in the history of Chinese dance, which saw the deriving of folk music and dance as well. Like many other aspects in that time, the folk music and dance in Han dynasty also inherited the style from its predecessors in Qin. The figurine of "Jade dancer" first appeared in the warring states period, flourished in Han, and then slowly disappeared afterward. It resulted from the fusion of cultural conceptions from the warring states period to the Han dynasty. The "Jade dancer" serves as not only a presentation of image, but also a vessel that carries the conception of jade culture. As an accessory, it shows the aesthetic idea of clothing as well. Therefore, this thesis starts from the times and spaces which "jade dancer" existed, and examines the relationship between jade culture, clothing culture and "jade dancer". Finally it focuses on the spirit of the ancient dance culture that the "jade dancer" presented. Additionally, it studies the relationship between the jade culture that symbolizes gentlemen and traditional dance, aiming to explore the dance culture of ancient China from multiple angles. |
