The outside world understands the city with the aid of the director’s words. Therefore, it is crucial to express the city by film. It is an important mission for film to shape the city image. Because film has some characteristic, such as vivid pictures, interesting plot and spread-widely. Shanghai and Hong Kong shape an image city because of its mature urban development and numerous social and cultural resources.Chongqing is a remote town in the west. It has a few works, and has not been able to shape a unified and stability city image. Chongqing’s movies have three stages. In1938, Chongqing appeared in the Chinese movie history. In the1990s, Several events have happened in Chongqing, such as the three gorges immigrant project, became China’s fourth largest municipality under the central government in1997. Chongqing has great changes in ten years. It attracted many directors to Chongqing to look for stories by rapid economic development and the emerging cityscape. And repeat images construct the stable Chongqing elements. As part of regional film, Chongqing city film also set up their own type, style and narrative mode. It provides high identification degree for urban and regional film.The first part of the thesis gives a brief introduction of Chongqing elements. and study the regional culture of Chongqing. The scend part of the thesis introduces the condition of Chongqing elements in the Chinese Film since the new Period. The third part of the thesis analyzes the Chongqing elements in the movie with the aid of image interpretation method.
