Jia Zhangke, as the rock of the new generation of directors in China,is different from the fifth generation predecessors.He always sticks to his care for the lowest class.Dai Jinhua has evaluated Jia Zhangke as"the last filmmaker in China",because of his recording of a variety of underlying figures through his unique approach.There are three chapters in this thesis.Firstly, in the first chapter, there are three points based on the idea that once you know the producer,you can understand his film.So it mainly talks about the great influence the background of Jia Zhangke’s family life has on his film production.Here,this essay just selects some backgrounds that have an extremely important influence on the film creation,and other points,they cannot be discussed here for lack of space. Secondly, he is a person which has unique personal style so that his filmmaking world is also different.And this section is divided into three specifics to discuss about the most important features,the weapons of Jia Zhangke’s films,such as the long shot,the true shoot of the object and documentary.Chapter two is mainly about Jia Zhangke’s film world. This chapter discusses three most important works of Jia Zhangke in the early period,which were known as "Hometown Trilogy".They are the records of the bottom life in Fenyang in his memories.The first film "Platform" shows us the joys and sorrows life of a group of country cultural troupe actors in the eighties of the last century. They believe that they are the elites of society, but they still lost themselves in that drastic age.The second film,"Xiao Wu" leads us into a seldom-known profession-pickpocket.But the thief hated by all the people,he has an unusual emotional life.Although he has nothing,he cherish the feelings very much.But in the end, his friends, lover and relatives abandoned him successively. Xiaowu is unable to adapt to the chang of human feelings under the social upheaval,and ultimately was sent to jail.The protagonists in the third film"Unknown Pleasures" are two rebellious teenagers and a girl who are dissatisfied with their life and want to escape from the predicament,.But it is just vain hope.The third chapter firstly discusses the transformation of Jia Zhangke after he finished the film "World".He has a broader perspective and is no longer confined to the hometown in his memory. And the Low Class of the bustling city and the Three Gorges migrants drew his attention. This not only leaves his films with more extensive social and cultural significance,but also leads to the changes in photographic style,picture processing.But he still continues to care about the low class in the society,this is the important persistence in his films.He has two representative works World and Still Life. And the following parts made a detailed exposition about the real living conditions "North drift" and immigrants.lt has a detailed explanation in the text.By discussing the low class images in Jia Zhangke’s films,this thesis aims at explaining the most important feature of solicitude to the inferior society in his producing films.
