XiNian, a book describing the history of the Pre-Qin period, provides a lot of referencefor researching historical events of Pre-Qin period. A large number of historical facts inXiNian can be read in comparison to ZuoZhuan. Among the historical facts can be mutuallyproved in both books, the representative ones are The History of Uncle Weikang and TheHistory of King Ping moving toward east. The intimate relationship and the coherencebetween XiNian and ZuoZhuan can be verified. Furthermore, the ZuZhuan can be improved. In XiNian, there are some descriptions different from that in ZuoZhuan, for example, TheHistory of Zhengzhaogong and The History of Xigui. These differences demonstrate they aredifferent in style. Besides, some of the historical faces in XiNian is similar to that ofZuozhuan, but there are apparent differences in details and emphases, which can beintensively found in the record of the Battle of Chengpu, the Battle of Yanling and the Battleof Hequ. The feature demonstrates the same tendency of XiNian and ZuoZhuan in narration.Since XiNian is consistent with ZuoZhuan in version and has the same tendency in narration,it is should be created on the basis of ZuoZhuan. XiNian covers the history from the WesternZhou Dynasty to the Warring States Period and the rise and fall of the Dynasty of Zhou andmany vassal states. Clearly, it is created as teaching materials. The author of XiNian should bewandering travelers and there are clear evidence that the set of chanpters is distorted. Therefore, XiNian isn’t created for short time, and isn’t written by a single writer.
