Comparative Study Of Positive Emotion To Maintenance And Manipulation The Effect On Working Memory

The relationship between of emotion and working memory is an important branch inthe field of the relationship between of emotion and cognitive research. The studies onthe impact of mood on working memory have two directions. One direction is thatdifferent emotions have different effects on working memory according to the materialtype of working memory--verbal information, spatial information and objectinformation. These researches found that emotion has a selective effect on workingmemory. The negative mood selectively affected the spatial working memory, but didn’taffect the verbal working memory; Positive mood selectively affected the verbal workingmemory, without affecting the spatial working memory. Another direction is according tothe working memory task requires processing-maintenance or maintenance-dividedinto different kinds of working memory. Mood also will have different effect on theworking memory. These researches found that both in positive mood and negative moodonly impact on manipulation, and no influence to maintenance. So they put forward thatmood influence on working memory is through to the influence of different processing.But the second direction of the research has just started, with less related research havedone, especially ERP research. In this study along the direction of the second study, onthe basis of using ERP technology explore the brain mechanism of the impact of emotionon working memory. In order to probe the diverse impact of positive emotion on maintenance andmanipulation with working memory, this study adopt ERP technology and use themodified delay matching task-letter-number sequencing task, which separates themainpulation form maintenance. The video material form China’s video library inducedmood, which include the neutral and positive video. The purpose of this study is to testthe selective effect of the positive mood on maintenance and manipulation with workingmemory. The results prove that positive emotion to boost the manipulation of workingmemory. Though meanwhile, there is no impact of the positive mood on the maintenanceof working memory. The specific performance is as follows:(1) On the behavior level, the boost effect of positive mood on the manipulation ofworking memory is embodied in:compared with the neutral condition, the operation taskaccuracy under positive mood is significantly higher. (2) In the ERP level, the boost effect of positive mood on the manipulation of working memory is embodied in: compared to the neutral condition, the operation task under positive mood the amplitude of P2, P3, late LPP in delayed phase is greater, and the amplitude of N300in delayed phase is to be more negative. This suggests that the impact of positive mood on the manipulation of working memory is from the early pay attention to the allocation of resources, meaning understanding to the late pay attention to keep the distribution of the note. The maintenance task of neutral condition and positive emotion is no difference.To sum up, this study result displays that the impact of positive mood on the manipulation of working memory is acceleration. In the meantime, the impact of positive mood on the manipulation of working memory is no effect. The results show that the impact of positive mood on the working memory may be through influencing the manipulating.
