In the Chinese government’s documents, the auxiliary word "De" appears frequently with complex usage. Take the2013Report on the Work of the Government for example. According to the calculation of BFSU PowerConc1.0beta21, there are as many as260"De"s in the Report, making it the word with the highest frequency. Therefore, it is necessary to study the translation strategies of the auxiliary word "De" in the English version of the Report. The research of the translation strategies of the word "De" lies in how to classify it. So, in the second chapter of the literature review, the author first introduces the origins and classification of the word "De". According to Mr. Zhang Bin, the auxiliary word "De" can be divided into three groups, namely the structural particle "De", the tense particle "De" and the modal particle "De". Then this paper illustrates several translation strategies of the auxiliary word "De" in others’studies.According to the2013Report on the Work of the Government and its English version, the author has established a small parallel corpus. Through analyzing, the author finds out the structural particle "De" appears with the highest frequency. So, the study of the translation strategies of the "X De Y" structure becomes the focus of this paper. Based on speech tagging, the author first identified the sentence constituents of the center word Y in all "X De Y" structure, then use those to determine the composition X, which shows that most of Xs are composed of noun structure and only a few are made up of adverb and pronoun.Since the vast majority of the certer word Y has been converted into the corresponding noun or noun structure, the examining of the translation of the X will lead to the translation strategies of the strucutural particle "De" in this article. According to the analysis, the author draws the following conclusions:In terms of translating the strucutural particle "De" in the Report, there are many translation strategies, such as possessive structure, preposition phrase, conversion of part of speech, free translation, adjective, infinitive phrase and attributive clause. Where Xs are composed of noun, noun structure, adjective or adjective structure, the translation strategies of the structure are conversion of part of speech and adjective. When Xs are made up of predicate structure and logical subject-predicate, the most commonly used strategies are preposition phrase and attributive clause, the use of which depends on the focus of the orginal sentence. |
