Han Suyin is a famous British-Chinese writer in contemporary literary world. Asto correct the wrong image of China in western eyes, she tries to speak out what shecan learn about the "real" image of China and reappear a real Chinese history andsocial environment. With the strongest literariness and the most delicate narration, herautobiography novel The Crippled Tree can be the best reflection of her writingcharacteristics. The paper attempts to use the theories and methodologies of theimagology of Comparative Literature to study the image of China described by HanSuyin. The images of China in her works include: natural scenery, custom and people.Accordingly analyzes the reasons for these generated images. The structure is asfollowing:The introduction mainly introduces Han Suyin and her literary creation, domesticand international studies on Han Suyin, researching methods of this paper and generalknowledge of imagologie.Chapter one studies the comprehensive and authentic natural scenerycharacterized with a grand, chic and wiled natural beauty, which is different from thetraditional image in western audiences’ eyes.Chapter two studies the custom images including festival customs, fete customs,daily behaviors and etiquettes. Explore her dynamic and developing reaction ofstereotype and imaginaire social.Chapter three studies people images, which contains four types:eunuch class, thelower class, revolutionaries, foreign daughter-in-law and mixed-blood, which is real,objective and united with the current main trend.Chapter four summarizes the forming reasons of these images, which can beclassified into four aspects: firstly, the marginal identity decides her way of solvingidentity recognition crisis through seeking cultural roots, Secondly. herautobiographical writing and multiple narration guarantee the authenticity andobjectiveness of the image. Thirdly combined grand narrative with personal narrative.Fourthly is her humanistic care depicts several vivid images.
