This is a translation project report. The source text of this project is chosen fromThe Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Foreign Language Translation Program,released by the US Department of Justice, whose purpose is to examine the FBI’sforeign language translation program in a comprehensive and systematic way. Thechapters to be translated are “Executive Summary” and “Linguist Requirements” parts.Most papers which explore translation theories of political literature usually focus onthe C-E translation, while in this project, the author choose The Federal Bureau ofInvestigation’s Foreign Language Translation Program as a source text. In the light ofNewmark’s translation theories, the author aims to accurately express the informationas well as the language style of the source text by means of semantic translation andcommunicative translation and different translation skills.This report is composed of four parts; chapter1is the introduction, including thebackground, objectives and significance of this translation project as well as thelayout of the report; chapter2mainly gives a brief introduction to the source text onthe author, content and language features; chapter3is the highlighting part of thisreport, consisting of preparations, difficulties, methodologies applied and specificexamples; chapter4is the conclusion, consisting of lessons learned from this projectand problems to be dealt with.
