Characterized by depressing mood and unhappiness, depression is a kind of negative emotion, which has negative effects on individuals’learning, working and life. It may also leads to mental disorders when people in a state of depressing for a long time. Depression has been the main factor influencing people’s health. WHO predicts that depression will be the second disease causing death and disability by the year2020. With a wide-range affect and a high morbidity and recurrent rate, researchers in the area of medicine and psychology have paid more attention to depression. Thus, the causes of the disease and its influential factors have been the study focus in psychology and psychiatry.Life position is a fundamental belief a person holds about himself and others.lt has four fundamental type, including "I am ok, you are ok","I am ok, you are not ok","I am not ok, you are ok" and "I am not ok, you are not ok". As an important factor in communicational psychology theory, however, life position is not given much empirical researches, especially in China. The extant studies about the relationship between life position and depression are almost theoretical. Besides, The results concluded from a few empirical studies, which are mainly foreign researches, are scattered and not unified. Combining questionnaire survey with cognitive behavioral experiment, this research uses empirical method to discuss the relationship between life position and depression. On the one hand, it provides a new perspective to understand depression and its causes and a guide to prevent and cure depression. On the other hand, it makes up for the blanks of the research of life position in China and makes a contribution to the localization of life position. This research contains two parts:the first part takes a questionnaire survey to explore the relationship between life position and depression; the second part adopts clue-target experimental paradigm to investigate whether depressing person has an attentional preference to negative self-concept and positive other-concept, namely "I am not ok, you are ok", and whether depression is a factor to maintain life position. The results indicate:1.Life position is the influence factor of depression. Compared with other types of life position, people with "I am not ok, you are ok" has a higher depression score. Self-concept has a significant prediction to depression. The higher the self-concept score is, the lower the depression score is. The difference between self-concept and other-concept also has a significant prediction to depression, In comparison to other-concept, the lower the self-concept score is, the higher the depression score is.2.Depression also has impact on life position. Depressing persons have attentional preferences to negative self-concept, which makes it difficult for them to inhibit the focus on negative self-concept. Thus, the attentional preferences influence the maintaining of the belief of "I am not good".
