| For a long time, English writing has been an obstacle for students and teachers in independent college. On the one hand, students do not lay enough emphasis on English writing and they do not make equal efforts on writing, compared to speaking, reading, and listening. On the other hand, teachers are used to taking traditional teaching approaches on writing. They pay much attention to the accuracy of the language, without the awareness of strategy training in writing. As a result, the effectiveness of teaching on writing is not significant, and sometimes the teaching is time-consuming but in vain.Since1970s, the research on language learning has been transferred from"how to teach" to "how to learn". Mang experts and researches have made lots of researches on learning strategies. This thesis is a study on strategy-based writing teaching. Based on the classification of learning strategies made by O’Malley and Chamot. Writing strategies will be integrated into writing teaching and other teaching activity involved, and the feasibility and the effectiveness will be found in expectation that the study will contribute to the writing teaching. The participants of the experiment are60freshmen(51females and9males) of non-english majors from an independent college(City College Wuhan University of Science and Technology). The questionnaires and writing tests will be conducted in the experiment group and control group before and after the experiment. Besides, the individual interviews will be conducted in the experiment group before and after the experiment. All the data got in the experiment will be processed and analyzed by SPSS16.0.The study will try to find answers to those questions below:1) Can writing proficiency be improved through strategy-based writing teaching?2) Can writing strategy use be improved through strategy-base writing teaching?3) Does the improvement of strategy use have inevitable correlation to the writing grade?Through14-week experiment, the general findings can be summarized as follows:1) Strategy-based writing teaching has positive effect on improving writing grades.2) Strategy-based writing teaching can contribute to the frequency of strategy use in writing.3) The frequency of strategy use may not necessarily go with the improvement of writing grades. |
