With the development of era, emerging culture has impact on traditional culture.Intangible cultural heritage project has become a hot topic, with an upsurge ofprotecting traditional culture in the past few years. The development and protection ofNanjing Brocade, a national intangible cultural heritage, could be seemed as a typicalexample of traditional culture protection. From prosperity to decline and renaissance,Nanjing Brocade had gone through a process that it was an adaptation of traditionalculture and in which state’s will-power infiltrated. The process was impacted byvarious power of the state and society that are interactive and game playing. In thisdissertation, Nanjing Brocade was studied as a national intangible cultural heritage, ofwhich the process of development and protection was described, striving to explorethe impact of various power, the relationship between state and society in this processand the impact of intangible cultural heritage project to traditional culture, in anattempt to assist in the popular intangible cultural heritage project and help traditionalculture protection better.There are six chapters in this dissertation. In chapter1, related literatures werereviewed, background, methods and purposes were introduced, and related conceptswere defined. In chapter2, the historical development of Nanjing Brocade fromprosperity to decline and renaissance was described. The third chapter mainly adoptsinterview and data way of describing the development of Nanjing brocade ResearchInstitute. Describeing the way how to protect the brocade by Nanjing government.The fourth chapter mainly wrote the historical development of Nanjing brocadeResearch Institute. Discusses the problem from the factors of inheritance inheritanceand brocade brocade industrialization problem of Rhododendron. The fifth chapterdescribes the different situation of two kinds of traditional culture is associated withthe Nanjing brocade.Try to compare them,finding various power struggles to findbehind the protection of traditional culture.The six chapter describes the relationshipbetween society and state.Protecting the traditional culture is a process that it was an adaptation oftraditional culture and in which state’s will-power infiltrated. In this process, the protection of traditional culture is a double-edged sword. It is provided the new livingspace for the traditional culture, but also make the traditional culture losing itstraditional things. This requires cooperation and compromise. In this process, therelationship between state and society is a kind of game and interactive. It is becauseof the game, to make the preservation of traditional culture is in a state of equilibrium.Not because the interests of one party and harm to traditional culture.
