Since the May Fourth Movement, the children’s literature in China has developed dramatically and numerous foreign children’s literature works have been introduced so as to promote cultural exchange and enrich the spiritual world of Chinese children. As an indispensable important link, translation is related to the transmissibility and acceptability of the translated version. Due to its unique features and audiences, children’s literature requires that the translators should consider such factors as children’s cognitive ways, thinking modes and receptivity and choose the appropriate translation strategies. This report is based on the translation project of the9th and10th section of Charles G. D. Roberts’animal novel Red Fox, which is one of the principle projects that are undertaken by the author as a postgraduate. In the report, the author primarily analyzes the children’s literature and Roberts’ animal novels for the purpose of grasping the characteristics of children’s literature. Then, the author reviews translation process and chooses several typical cases to analyze and make a summary. In the process of translation, the author adopts translation techniques such as choosing vivid words, breaking up long sentences and using idioms to ensure the instructiveness, enjoyment and readability of the translated version, which will fit children’s psychology and satisfy their needs of reading. At the end of the report, the author mentions the difficulties in the translation-process, the solutions and experiences. As the report reveals, the author has a deeper understanding of translation, especially the children’s literature translation after this practice. Translators should comprehensively take such factors as targets of translation, the transmission of original meaning, audience’s demands and client requirements into consideration so as to guarantee the quality of the translated version.
