There has been a long time, theologians and philosophers argue about the questionof Miracle. Some of them defense of miracle, such as Augustine and Thomas Aquinas,Pascal, Butler, etc, they resorted it to make proof of the exist of the God. At the sametime, there are some philosophers put forward rational inquiry to the traditional conceptof miracle, such as Hobbes, Spinoza, Hume, Leibniz, etc. This paper mainly discussedSpinoza’s miracle theory, exploring the history background and theory origin, includingeconomic background, cultural background and religious background in17th century inDutch. The theory origin mainly includes Maimonides and Lapeyrere’s religion theory. In the second part, I mainly elaborated Spinoza’s miracle theory. In this part, I madeconcrete analysis of Spinoza’s miracle theory in four part, fundamentally speaking,Spinoza embarked from the rational positivism. He thought the nature has its ownunchangeable order, there is no laws violate it. Spinoza didn’t admit supernaturalphenomenon.Events that we call them miracles, just because we don’t know the reason.Once we know it, we can explain it in natural laws. And it becomes a natural thing not asupernatural thing. Miracles never provide knowledge about the God for us. It exists inpeople’s ignorance. The God never break the natural’s law.The God’s command andwill are nature itself. We can’t read the miracle in the Bible word by word.We shouldread it in a critical way.In the third part,I expounds the influence of Spinoza’s miracletheory to modern philosophers, and the evaluation and research made by the modernscholars, such as Hume, Schleiermacher,Strauss and Graham Hunter, etc. In the lastpart of the paper I mainly discussed the significance and value of Spinoza’s miracletheory in today. And the incompleteness of the theory.Miracles are the basis of revealedreligion, play an important role in the spread of religion. To deny the exists of miracle,Spinoza is not the only one in the history.however, Spinoza’s miracle theory has a greatinfluence in history, people both criticism and praise for him. Spinoza’s theory of miracle, in his entire religious critique theory, occupies a very important core status.Talking about the miracle phenomenon in religion, I think Spinoza study it as aphilosopher question, his analysis is obviously very deep. Spinoza enlighten his peoplewith knowledge, he liberated them from the mire of the superstition. The thought ofrational enlightenment, still has immeasurable value theory in today’s society.Forwriting this paper, I hope to provide a rational thinking for today’s religion field. Whenwe met a complex religious phenomenon, we can analyze the question in a philosophyview and find a ultimate reason for things.
