| 1990s is a high period for African Americans to struggle for equality and freedom, and this thesis is based on the journal African American Review and some related Black history to analyze the Black self-identity by using the sociolinguistic theories. This thesis analyzes the Black self-identity by using the diachronic study method, according to the time sequence, reflecting its time and space changes, and combines the related Black history, from historical perspective, to discuss the changes of Black power and Black self-identity. And from the analysis of Black self-identity, we draw a conclusion that Black self-identity develops rapidly, not only in the words, grammar choice, but also in social status. African Americans get confidence and self-satisfaction from these social changes and language changes, their spirits are stronger than before, and self-image is also better than before. Black self-identity is an important part to the construction of Black culture, it links Black identification and social factors, and it is a scale to measure the degree of Black civilization. |
