In the ecological system of college English classroom, TT (Teacher Talk) is an importantpart of teachers’ behavior and plays an irreplaceable role in classroom teaching.With some related ecology principles such as the law of limiting factors, the flowerpot effect,the principle of ecological niche, the law of tolerance and the optimum principle, andconstructivism as well as humanism as the theoretical basis, with college English classroom asthe main place of education, the thesis researches the functions of TT in college English classesfrom the perspective of micro-educational ecology. The thesis takes some English teachers andstudents of Grade One and Two from the non-English majors of Daqing Normal University as thesubjects and carries out the investigation and research for four months. The purpose of theresearch is to know the existing problems of TT in college English classroom and then to explorethe functions needed by TT in the ecological classroom of college English and the measures toimprove its functions. In order to ensure the result of the research more authentic and effective,the research collects the data mainly through the methods of class recordings, questionnaires andinterview. More exactly, it includes8teachers’ class recordings,200effective students’questionnaires,20effective teachers’ questionnaires and the interviews with4teachers. From thedimensions of the amount of TT, the norm of TT, teachers’ questions, feedback and interactionalmodifications, the thesis analyzes the obtained data and explores the problems of TT in collegeEnglish classroom and the functions needed by TT in the ecological classroom of college English.Then, on the basis of the result of the research, the thesis puts forward some reasonable measuresfor the improvement of the functions of TT. The measures will promote students’ all-rounddevelopment and contribute to the creation of a harmonious classroom environment and thebuilding of the ecological classroom of college English.The present study expands the study field of vision of TT and to a certain extent, enrichesthe related research theory of English teaching and makes a great contribution to theestablishment of the ecological classroom of college English and the improvement of teachingquality.
