| Essay is an important genre of literature, which has been popular with writers and readers fora long time because of its unique features. The Chinese essay has a long history, and there area lot of famous essays in ancient times, which are still popular now. After May4th Movement,under the influence of the New Culture Movement, vernacular began to be widely used aswriting language, and the forms and materials of essays are more free and flexible. At thattime, there emerged a lot of eminent writers who used essays to describe life and expressemotions. Many of the essays at that time become famous ones. These are all the preciouswealth of Chinese literature, carrying the spirit and culture of China.However, it is a pity that essay translation relatively falls behind in the translation field.Zhang Peiji’s Selected Modern Chinese Essays make up this blank in the translation field.Translation Aesthetics is a theory combining translation and aesthetics, which is especiallyappropriate for the translation of literary works.This thesis makes a tentative study on essay translation from a relatively newperspective---translation aesthetics, and giving reasonable analyses. This shows that to studyessay translation from the perspective of translation aesthetics is feasible and practical, anddeserves to make in-depth study in the future. This thesis illustrates the translation aestheticsby examples, hoping that these parts could give some help to the spread and development ofthis theory. At the same time, this thesis analyzes Zhang’s wonderful translations from formalsystem to non-formal system, showing that good essays translation should represent intranslations all kinds of the aesthetic values of the original. The author hopes that this couldprovide some reference value for the translators and the translated texts readers. |
