Vocal music singing, as the interpretation of music, began from theModern Western culture. In fact, singing is not exotic. As a country rich in culturalheritage, China had produced singing since ancient age. What the author considers asfollows: Firstly, it will be clearer to divide Chinese vocal music into Chinese traditionalvocal music and modern vocal music. Secondly, there are a lot of good theories intraditional Chinese vocal music which need to be studied and carried forward. Finally,in the modern vocal development process, we find some bad phenomena: some scholarsthink that China doesn’t have its own vocal system, what China has is onlymechanically copy from western vocal system. So for this condition, I would like toclarify the status of Chinese vocal system by the method of analogy and comparison.Chinese singing style has a long history, and this style plays an important role onModern Chinese vocal music.This thesis is divided into five chapters to discuss.The first chapter fully analyzes the concepts of ‘Chinese traditional vocalmusic’and ‘Chinese modem vocal music’. This part also shows the development ofthem.The second chapter clears up the essential theory of thousands of works of Chinesetraditional vocal music.The third chapter analyzes the development of Chinese modern vocal music, thenfinds out the role why western vocal music plays on Chinese modern vocal music.The fourth chapter fingers out the distinction and connections between AncientChinese vocal music and Chinese modern music, from the point of view of musicaesthetics.From the point of ‘breathing’,‘words’,‘mood’, the last chapter discusses the influence of Chinese traditional vocal music to Modern vocal music.
