Reading is an essential requirement to academic learning for every student in every field,and reading is also one of the basic abilities in foreign language teaching in China. Readingstrategy is an important part in learning strategy. This paper aims to conduct a research on Englishmajors’ reading strategies and achievements to discuss the impact of the use of reading strategieson reading achievements, and thus provides implications for college English teaching reading.This paper aims to answer the following questions:(1) What are the reading strategies used by English majors in their English reading?(2) What are the overall tendency of English reading strategies use for college Englishmajors?(3) What are the relationships between English reading strategies and achievements?(4) What are the differences between high-score and low-score readers in theiremployment of reading strategies?The study uses both questionnaires and a reading test. A questionnaire survey of relevantstatistical data analysis, using descriptive statistics for all students meta-cognitive strategies andcognitive strategies analyze and compare the frequency of used; the correlation analysisstatistical method to discuss the correlation between reading strategies and reading achievements.This paper studies the correlation between reading strategies and achievements, and identifiesreading strategies and achievements in more specific detail on correlation.There is a positive correlation between the use of reading strategies and readingachievements; based on the results of analysis of the data obtained. It is suggested the strategyinstruction should be integrated into teaching activities and students should take charge of theirown study, do more reading and consciously transfer strategies to similar reading tasks.Furthermore, students should be motivated to enhance their effort to learn and practice thestrategies in extensive reading activities.
