Collage Art Of Doris Lessing’s Postmodern Fiction

Doris Lessing is regarded as the most influential and well-known writer in British literary field, she is Nobel Prize winner of literary in2007. Her fictions are of epoch-making significance. Her masterpiece The Golden Notebook is being studied as a unique work by critics and scholars at home and abroad all the time. Derived from its unique conception and social meaning, this thesis also explores its narrative techniques, it studies how collage art plays an important role in Lessing’s fiction through The Golden Notebook and her other fiction, analyzing its applied techniques and artistic value, and discussing why collage art plays a vital role in post-modernism literary, in order to interpret the connotative meaning and denotative meaning that The Golden Notebook reflects.This thesis starts from characteristics of post-modernism literary and meta-fiction, summarizes narrative strategy, introduces origin and relevant concepts of collage art, especially the application of collage art in post-modernism fiction, and takes many Lessing’s fiction as examples. This thesis is composed of five parts, mainly introduces narrative strategies of post-modernism meta-fiction, specifically analyzes the application of space-time collage, stylistic collage, format collage, vulgar and elegant collage, fiction and reality collage in The Golden Notebook, The Story of Non-Marrying Man and The Summer before the Dark, We can realize how the collage art serves for the theme of fictions through these analyses to study post-modernism fictions’ artistic charm and value.
