Take Sifang Mechine Factory For Example-Study On Old Buildings In Qingdao

During its a hundred years of history, Qingdao descended to colony of imperialistcountries for three times. Once being colony of Germany and Japan, Qingdao maderapid progress in modern architectures. In Qingdao, different styles of buildings are seeneverywhere, making it the ‘exhibition of the world’s architecture’. While the buildingsconstructed in ancient and modern time are damaged in other cities, those in Qingdaoare well preserved sound and intact. Most of the buildings in Qingdao SifangLocomotive Factory, the research target of this dissertation, have been demolished, onlyfew of them are preserved. Through this research, the author of this dissertation hopes toprovide a valuable historical data for the sake of next generations’ reference.(1) Evolution of architecture styles in QingdaoThe buildings constructed when Qingdao descended to the colony of Germanyreflect the social formation of that time. Research of these buildings will help us have abetter understanding of Qingdao’s development history. Through these buildings, theauthor of this dissertation analyzes and recognizes the then social development fromaspects of society, economy and culture, so as to have a comprehensive understandingof the historical development of these buildings and get a big picture of building stylesin modern Qingdao.(2) Development of Qingdao Sifang Locomotive Factory and Its ArchitecturalStyleQingdao Sifang Locomotive Factory has a history of nearly one hundred years,where the buildings were constructed by Dehua Company when Qingdao was thecolony of Germany. The construction of railways is important for the development ofQingdao, so Qingdao Sifang Locomotive Factory holds an important position in themodern history of Qingdao. The buildings in this factory were constructed by Germanand had unique features and styles. Over the years, many buildings have beendemolished. The author of this dissertation hopes to preserve the data about theseunique buildings.(3) Featured Urban Style Generated by Unique Historic MorphologyUnder the unified planning and designing of then government controlled byGerman, Qingdao made rapid progress in buildings construction. German adoptedunified planning, took consideration of the harmony between buildings and the natural environment. They also managed to construct buildings with different styles, whichmade Qingdao has its own distinct urban styles at that time.(4) Suggestions for the Preservation and Development of Buildings with UniqueStylesOver the years, Qingdao plays an important role in modern China. However, in thedevelopment process of Qingdao, the living environment is getting better, more viaductsand high-rise residential buildings are flourishing. However, many buildings and ancientstreets with historical value have been destroyed or demolished. Research of thesehistoric buildings in Qingdao is of great significant to preserve and restore these ancientbuildings.
