Fei Ming is a distinctive writer in modern Chinese literature history. In the first half ofthe twentieth Century, although there were a lot of intense conflicts between the East and theWest about culture, politics and nations, He kept away from the politics and cultivated “hisown plot” lonely and persistently, adhered to the ideal of literature and the pursuit of his own.He excavated the resources from traditional literature and absorbed western modernist literarycreation methods, integrated Chinese and Western literary merits together. His novels,whether it is idea, theme, or text, language, or the characters are permeated with Chinesecharacteristics, showing strong and distinctive “Chineseness”. This paper will be“Chineseness” as the breakthrough point, discuss Fei Ming’s novel creation, search for“Chineseness” cause and motivation, explore the literary aesthetic pursuit of “Chineseness”,analyze the performance of “Chineseness”, reveal the significance of “Chineseness”.This paper is composed by four parts besides the introduction and conclusion:The first chapter discusses the “Chineseness” from Fei Ming novels’ cause andmotivation. The “Chineseness” of Fei Ming’s novel creation is closely related to nativeculture, family background and his own personality traits, and is affected by creation of originand Zhou Zuoren. At the same time, Buddhism plays an immeasurable role in the process ofthe formation of the “Chineseness”.The second chapter explores the literary aesthetic pursuit of “Chineseness”. Based onliterary views of “Dream”, Fei Ming spares no efforts to show his own temperament andexpress his literary aim to enhance the cohesion of the nation, which are the typical spirit ofChinese literature.The third chapter analyzes the novel text, look for the typical characteristics of“Chineseness” from unique imagery, artistic conception, language, style, girl image.The fourth chapter reveals the significance of the “Chineseness” of Fei Ming’s novelcreation. Especially, in the novel creation process, Fei Ming sticks to his literature idea,excavates and inherits the traditional resources, fully make use of the western novel skills. Inaddition, the paper points out the enlightenment of Fei Ming’s novel creation to our currentliterary creation.
