The theory of intertextuality was put forward by Kristeva in1967and used for literarycriticism at first. From the perspective of intertextual translation, the research combinesqualitative analysis with quantitative analysis, and chooses two English versions of The ThreeKingdoms translated by C.H. Brewitt-Taylor and Moss Roberts respectively. On the basis ofFairclough’s view, the author takes in the classifications of Manifest Intertextual Translationand Constitutive Intertextual Transaltion. The research analyzes how the theory ofintertextuality instructs translation process and cultural factors in translating practice. Besides, the quality of two English versions can be compared by using different translation strategiesand there comes a conclusion that the same intertextual sign will have different meanings indifferent contexts, translators can only interprete TT(short for target texts) by understandingST(short for source texts) thoroughly. So, intertextual translation can help improve the qualityof the target texts in a better way. |
