In the context of interwoven between Globalization and nationalization, with the introduction of Western painting and its integration with Chinese painting, the further development of the evolution of localization, to absorbed the spirit of traditional Chinese culture to the language of contemporary Chinese painting, is not only the spirit of national identity and modern an appeal, but also the inevitable development of oil painting their own laws.This paper argues, the freehand spirit should be understood broadly, that is it not only refers to a creative technique, but also a creative mood, and the feelings creator to express. Therefore, the freehand spirit is the harmony between the subjective spirit and objective things, the perfect combination between an artist with his art, and the context between the "Dao" and "Device". With the long history profound meaning, the Traditional Chinese culture became the starting point and the content of the freehand spirit freehand, freehand is the spirit. According to oil painting, the artist’s morality, knowledge and skills training is essential to cultivate the spirit of the freehand. In addition, in different types of painting, the impressionistic approach to the freehand spirit is different. At present, there are some errors both in theory and in practice on the understanding to the freehand spirit. With the negative impact of the market economy, the oil painting has possibility of loss of the freehand spirit. So, when learning painting theory, every Chinese painting artist should fully take care of the spirit of Chinese oil painting freehand, and show the embodiment of national culture as well as its own, unique.
