Lebanon writer Kahlil Gibran and English poet William Blake have profound attainments on poem and paint, they all accepted the influence from the occident and orient religion culture, and have many common in their literary and art works. Gibran was deeply affected by Blake, so he was called of20th century’s Blake.The influence of Blake not only can be found in the factual relation of Gibran’s biography and data, but also can be found in Gibran’s literary and art works. When Gibran studied in Paris, he was deeply interested in Blake and understood his painting and poetry from the famous sculptor Auguste Rodin. Blake has persistent and profound influence on Gibran’s literary and art works. The art technique of painting and poetry combination, including the prolific literary and art works, the bared image and abundant imagine, eternal space-time and boundless sensibility, has profound influence on Gibran. At the same time, Blake’s foresight thought in his production, including the thinking mode of nature and human beings combination, the idea of all religions are one, the idea of God and human beings combination, the dialectic idea of antinomy and unification, all give Gibran a lot of inspiration.Gibran was called of20th century’s Blake, not only because of the influence of Blake’s literary and art works, but also because of the integration of Blake’s influence and his own unique style, which shaped in the20th century’s time spirit, cultural background and Gibran’s creative individuality.This dissertation tries to depend on literature theory and painting theory, through comparative study their literary and art works, analyze the origin, meaning and causation of the proposition "Kahlil Gibran:20th century’s William Blake" and extend the studies of this area.
